'GO YOUR OWN WAY'
That thing over there? It was more fun when we didn't know what it was. The unexplained noise, those odd people, that unmapped place? It was healthy being scared every once in a while; it stretched our imaginations in a way that simple facts, figures and explanations never quite could.
We live in an increasingly amiable, catalogued world, our countless e-neighbours are never further than a screen away, and we can already guess how their bedrooms are decorated, what t-shirts they wear, and what they had for breakfast. To be honest it's gotten a bit dull. To be clear: Rinzen loves it's neighbours! And we're certainly lazy enough to appreciate the helping hand of technology. But maybe it's not a contradiction to say we love communication but still live in fear of a blogged planet.
GO YOUR OWN WAY is a celebration of the sexy scariness of chaos and mystery, the risks of hunting apart from the pack, and thei ndependence to knowingly take the road less travelled (while still wearing your good shoes) just to see what might happen along the way.
BIOGRAPHY
Australian design and art collective Rinzen is best known for the collaborative approach of its five members, forming as a result of their visual and audio remix project, RMX. Extending the concept for their 2001 book, the group invited over 30 international participants to sequentially rework digital art, in what has now become a common method of collaboration amongst graphic designers and illustrators. Most recently the project has taken a hands-on turn, yielding a series of toys which were made and remade as they were sent from country to country.
The group's work has been shown in galleries from Mexico City to Tokyo, their designs commissioned by Puma, MTV, Vogue and Nylon and their books published and distributed internationally. Their designs have appeared on everything from wallpaper and fabric to bicycles and toys.
They recently designed the inaugural issue of Paul Pope's Batman for DC Comics, the cover of US Magazine XLR8R and a range of characters for Madrid's Museo del Prado museum.
Members of the group are based in Berlin, Brisbane, Melbourne and New York.
