Artist Profile: Jordi Labanda
Jordi Labanda was born in Mercedes, Uruguay and has lived in Barcelona since the age of three. He studied industrial design and began to work as a commercial illustrator in 1993. In Spain he has worked and still collaborates with the most important newspapers and magazines: La Vanguardia, Marie Claire, El País, Vogue and Elle.
In 1995 he began to collaborate widely in the international press, his work appearing in The New York Times Sunday Magazine, Visionaire, Wallpaper*, Tatler, W, Vogue America, Vogue Italia and La Repubblica. His corporate clients include Grand Marnier, Moncler, JVC, American Express, Alessi, Zara, Adidas, Puig Fragancias, Manga Films, Pepsi Light, Knoll Internacional, Nissan España, Dior, Target and Neiman Marcus.
Noteworthy special collaborations include the design of the Nissan Micra Jordi Labanda; the murals at Sandwich & Friends in Barcelona; the cinema poster for Relative Values and his participation in the first Sónar Kids.
Amongst his editorial works, we should mention his first book Hey Day, a compilation of his best work over nine years. Si Te He Visto No Me Acuerdo [If I’ve seen you, I don’t remember], his latest book, contains 58 originals, the fruit of the artist’s collaboration with La Vanguardia Magazine.
A few years back he also branched out into design and has created a fashion collection and a product line of notebooks, pens and accessories with his illustrations, design and brand, distributed in Europe, South America, Australia and Japan.
