Artist Profile: Hort

Hort - a small graphic design studio made up of a mixed bag of uniquely selected, creative and spirited people. Throughout its existence Hort has been a constant pioneer in re-inventing the visual language of Contemporary Graphic Design. “Hort’s ongoing experimental enthusiasm has inspired many young budding designers, found its way as an influential source amongst our own contemporaries and been featured in countless publications. Hort likes to inform people creatively and in a way that makes information easier to understand; illustrate a company’s personality by developing a brand; work with and for agencies in producing graphic visuals for a product or client; explore new mediums and platforms for expression and communication; collaborate with start-up businesses who require assistance in establishing themselves; create a visual connection with some music and its listener. Whether it is a poster for a theatre company, emotional imagery to promote a campaign, designing and programming a complex website or visually articulating a magazine article, Hort gets a lot of joy out of learning about new things and people and what we can offer through our experience and knowledge. What Hort does is all accomplished by developing visual systems that aid in the usability and communication of image and brands. These systems are created to ensure that once the final outcome has left our hands it can blossom and adapt with the tides of cultural and social change. Visual systems also help in controlling any limitations that may come our way. Limitations guide us in discovering that special little something that every company and body possesses. These limitations could be anything from a corporate colour to a specific audience or a tight deadline to the language a company uses that best represents their morals and values. The visual systems Hort creates can be found in the form of print, motion, web and space. When away from his Humble Hort Hub, Eike takes on the role of mentor. He has led numerous creative workshops locally and internationally and conducted lectures at various universities around Germany.
